Resurgence of performing arts centre, Vancouver

As a freelance Interim and project manager directed the re-opening and resurgence of a $26 million performing arts facility after lengthy shut-down.

  • Conceived a new business model for the facility and sold it to all stakeholders.
  • Authored and implemented initial budget.
  • Created a new management team/structure and led them through a fast paced high learning curve rebuild, production install, and opening.
  • Designed and instituted new operational procedures.
  • Directed all marketing, communication, and public relations activities in a total rebranding program.
  • Developed and oversaw all sponsorship and contra initiatives.
  • Identified and prioritized crucial milestone and long term goals while keeping personnel focused on short term successes.
  • Clarified and renegotiated all service, employment, and union contracts.
  • Delegated responsibilities while dividing personal executive time between immediate needs milestone/goal requirements, and distant objectives.
  • Rebuilt damaged relationships with Provincial, City, and local business stakeholders.

Results

  • Completed all initially required projects on time though slightly over budget.
  • Re-designed and realigned all systems and procedures, dropping the initial estimated operating expenses by just under 3%.
  • The team mainly remained focused on the ultimate direction.
  • Moved into second and subsequent phases of the overall project with minimal difficulties.
  • Re-opened the facility with sold-out attendance, high local awareness and strong City and Provincial engagement.
